Where to stay in Tetebatu

Where to Stay in Tetebatu

We always tell our Lombok Loop guests that if they want to see what Bali felt like before the crowds arrived, the foothills of Mount Rinjani and the village of Tetebatu is where they need to head.

Tetebatu is a quiet place perfect for travelers wanting a taste of traditional Lombok life away from the heavy coastal tourist traffic. It’s known for its lush rice terraces, the elusive black ebony leaf monkeys, and some of Lombok’s most impressive waterfalls like Benang Stokel. We pass through every week on the Lombok Loop circuit, and it’s still one of our favorite places on the island to escape and slow down.

In this guide, we’ll show you where to stay in Tetebatu Lombok, with our top picks for every budget and travel style.

Where to stay in Tetebatu Map

Tetebatu is the best base on the island if you want cool air, rice terraces, and proper jungle walks, offering a slow, rural pace that’s the complete opposite of staying in Kuta Lombok, where the focus is surf breaks, beaches, and a more social traveller scene.

  • Location: Central Lombok located on the southern slopes of Mount Rinjani
  • Access: Roughly 90 minutes (43.5 km) from Lombok International Airport
  • Best For: Hikers, nature lovers, and travellers wanting a quieter, cooler base with waterfalls to explore
  • Accommodation Options: Mostly family-run guesthouses and small bungalows
  • Facilities and Amenities: Many properties offer guided rice terrace walks, monkey forest tours, and waterfall day trips, with small warungs and cafes scattered through the village to keep the taste buds satisfied.
  • Best Time to Visit: April to October is the dry season and best for exploring, while the shoulder months can be wetter it actually brings the rice terraces to their greenest and the waterfalls to their best.

With cooler temperatures, rice fields, and easy access to waterfalls and Rinjani views, Tetebatu is the perfect spot to be for a slower, mountain-side stay and is one of our favorite stops along the Lombok Loop.

Our top Picks for Where to Stay in Tetebatu

The village of Tetebatu sits at roughly 700m above sea level, giving it a cool, crisp climate that feels completly different from the more humid southern beaches like Mawun Beach. You will not find luxury resorts here instead, the accommodation scene is built entirely around family run homestays and eco bungalows that sit beside and above the rice fields.
