What You Should Know About the Lombok to Komodo Boat Trip
If you’re dreaming of a bucket-list adventure in Indonesia, the 4-day, 3-night boat trip from Lombok to Komodo Island is an experience you shouldn’t miss.
This boat is not only a way to get to Komodo Island from Lombok– but it’s the best way to explore the untouched islands between Lombok and Komodo that few travelers ever see!
Plus, the experience is the perfect way to continue your trip in Indonesia after joining us on the Lombok Loop (epic 4-day motorcycle journey similar to the Ha Giang Loop in Vietnam). And the good news is that as locals we have spent years exploring these waters and even made the trip ourselves. So from practical travel tips to what you can expect onboard, here’s what you need to know to plan and book the epic Lombok to Komodo boat trip!
1. All Lombok to Komodo Boats Aren’t Equal
Not all boat trips from Lombok to Komodo are created equal, and choosing the right operator can make or break your trip. There are around 4 companies running Lombok to Komodo boat tours. Without naming names, some have gained a bad reputation for issues like overcrowding, limited food supplies, frequent cancellations, and subpar safety standards.

Due to language barriers, the reputable boat operators rely on local agents (like us) to sell their tickets and help with logistics, ie. getting to the port etc. The good news is that the price remains the same whether you book directly or through us– but full transparency, we get a little kickback, that’s the way things work on the island.
The price for the reliable boats is 3.7 million IDR for deck class and 4.2 million IDR for cabin class.
Deck class is a budget-friendly and fun option, while cabins offer a little bit more privacy (more information below). We can help you secure tickets, organize logistics, and ensure you’re booked on a reputable operator for the same price as booking directly.

Because the Komodo boat trips are so popular, we’ve branched out and created a dedicated Komodo boat trip booking team that focuses purely on these adventures. Don’t worry, we’re all one big happy family, and you’ll still get the same amazing hospitality and customer service you’ll get on the Lombok Loop!

2. The Basics of the Lombok to Komodo Boat Trip
This multi-day sailing adventure typically runs over 4 days and 3 nights, starting in Lombok and ending in Labuan Bajo, Flores. The boats offer a mix of sightseeing, snorkeling, and guided excursions at key stops, including Komodo Island, Pink Beach (different to the Pink Beach in Lombok), and Padar Island, as well as options to swim with whale sharks in Saleh Bay.
- Duration: 4 days, 3 nights
- Start/End Points: Depart from Lombok (usually Senggigi or East Lombok) and finish in Labuan Bajo.
- Best Time to Go: April to November offers the best weather with calm seas and sunny days.
This route is perfect for budget-conscious travelers, as it includes your transport, meals, and most activities, making it a cost-effective way to see the highlights of Komodo National Park.

3. deck Class & Cabin Class Explained
One important thing to know about the Lombok to Komodo boat trip is that reputable operators offer two classes of accommodation: Deck Class and Cabin Class. Both options provide a unique experience, but the choice ultimately depends on your preferences and comfort level.
Deck Class
Deck Class is the budget-friendly option and a favorite for many travelers. You’ll sleep on a covered area of the deck with a mattress and light sheet or blanket.
- What to Expect: Shared sleeping space with other travelers, comfortable mattresses, and the refreshing sea breeze as you drift off to sleep.
- Why Choose It: If you’re okay with sleeping outside, this is hands down the best option. The deck stays cool at night, unlike the cabins, and the open-air experience is something truly special. Plus, there aren’t any mosquitos out on the water so you don’t need nets!

Cabin Class
Cabin Class offers small private rooms with fans for those who prefer a bit more privacy.
- What to Expect: Humid but cozy rooms with no air conditioning. Cabins are compact, so don’t expect luxury—think of them as a place to store your bags and sleep at night with a bit more privacy.
- Why Choose It: If you value privacy or need a dedicated space to rest, Cabin Class is the way to go. However, keep in mind that cabins can get warm, especially during hotter months. Usually they are open at the top near the roof, so a light breeze can come in.

Tip: In our experience, Deck Class is the better choice for most travelers. Sleeping outside with the sound of the waves and the cool sea breeze is not only comfortable but adds to the adventure.

4. The Trips Stop Running in the Off-Season
It’s important to know that the Lombok to Komodo boat trips don’t run year-round. These trips are highly dependent on weather and sea conditions, so operators pause services during the rainy season for safety reasons.
When Do the Trips Run?
- High Season (April to November): This is the ideal time for the trip, with calm seas, sunny days, and optimal visibility for snorkeling and diving. Boats typically operate on a regular schedule during these months, departing multiple times a week.
- Shoulder Season (March & December): Some trips may still run, but schedules can vary. Seas are rougher during these months, and there’s a higher chance of rain affecting the experience. It’s best to check availability with the operator.
When Do the Trips Stop?
Off-Season (January to February): During the peak of the rainy season, trips are suspended due to safety concerns like strong winds, heavy rains, and choppy seas. Boats won’t operate during this period, so it’s not possible to book a trip.

5. The Trips Run in Reverse too (Komodo to Lombok)
What you might not know is that the Lombok to Komodo boat trips also run in reverse—starting in Komodo and finishing in Lombok. This option is less popular but can be a great way to reach Lombok if you’re beginning your adventures in Komodo or Flores.
- Same Itinerary, Different Direction: The reverse trip follows the exact same route, stopping at all the incredible spots like Padar Island, Pink Beach, and Moyo Island, just in reverse order.
- Seasonal Departures: Departure dates can vary depending on the season, so it’s always best to contact our booking team for the latest schedule and availability.
If you’re planning to travel from Komodo to Lombok, we can help organize everything for a smooth and hassle-free experience.

6. This Is Not a Luxury Boat Trip
If you’re looking for a luxury boat trip, this might not be the right option for you. These trips are more of a “backpacker-style” adventure, and remember you are in Indonesia. The trip attracts a casual vibe that tends to be a younger crowd. That said, it’s not a party boat, and there’s no age limit—our team has helped travelers in their 60s book this trip, and many have called it the time of their life!
Here’s what to expect:
- Backpacker Atmosphere: Think laid-back, adventurous travelers sharing stories under the stars.
- Comfortable but Simple: While the beds on the deck or in the cabins are surprisingly comfortable, the accommodations and amenities are basic—perfect for those who don’t mind a bit of rustic charm.
- Great Food: Despite the simplicity, the meals onboard are hearty and delicious, offering plenty of Indonesian flavors to keep you fueled for the adventure.
If you’re set on a more luxurious experience, we can help connect you with luxury boat operators in Komodo (we recommend flying to Labuan Bajo to start). Just reach out to our team!

7. But This Is an All-Inclusive Trip
One of the best things about the Lombok to Komodo boat trip is that it’s all-inclusive, making it an excellent value for adventurous travelers. You won’t have to worry about arranging meals, activities, or even park fees—all the essentials are taken care of. However, there are a few things not included, so it’s good to know what to bring or budget for.
What’s Included:
Here’s everything you can expect to be covered in your trip cost:
- Accommodation: Deck class includes mattresses and blankets under a covered area, while cabin class offers private rooms with fans.
- Meals: Three delicious meals a day—Indonesian-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner—with unlimited coffee, tea, and snacks to keep you fueled.
- Activities: Snorkeling, hiking, and island visits, including guided tours to see the famous Komodo dragons.
- Equipment: Snorkels and masks are provided for exploring the vibrant coral reefs.
- National Park Fees: All entry fees for Komodo National Park and other stops along the way are included, so you won’t be hit with surprise costs.

What’s Not Included:
While the trip covers almost everything, here are a few things you’ll need to budget or pack for:
- Accommodation in Labuan Bajo: After the trip ends, you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation in Labuan Bajo.
- Transport: Pickup from your Lombok accommodation and transfer to the departure harbor are not included but we can help you arrange this at a fair price.
- Alcohol: Yes, you can drink on board but beers and wine aren’t included or even stocked. But you can purchase them at the meeting point before departure (approx. 50,000–60,000 IDR per beer).
- Fins: Snorkeling gear is provided, but fins are not. If you have your own, bring them along for a better experience.
- Personal Items: Bring essentials like reef-safe sunscreen, motion sickness tablets, and a reusable water bottle (if you prefer your own).
- Snacks: While meals and basic snacks are included, extra treats or special dietary items are not.

8. The Reputable Boats Often Book Out Quickly
As mentioned earlier, many local tour agents across Lombok, including us at Lombok Loop, help travelers secure spots on the best boats for the Lombok to Komodo trip. However, space on these reputable operators is limited, and they often fill up well in advance.
Why Do the Good Boats Book Out?
- High Demand: Everyone, from experienced travelers to local agents, wants to secure spots on the well-known boats due to their better service, safety, and overall experience.
- Limited Capacity: These boats have fewer spots available to maintain comfort, which means they book out quickly, especially during the high season.
The Problem With Low-Quality Boats
Unfortunately, some less-reputable tour agents in Lombok will swap their travelers onto lower-quality boats when the good ones are full—or even when they aren’t. These questionable practices can include:
- Overcharging and Pocketing the Difference: Travelers may unknowingly be placed on cheaper, subpar boats while being charged for higher-quality options.
- Compromised Experiences: These boats often have issues like overcrowding, limited food, or poor safety standards, leading to a less enjoyable trip.
Why Book With Us?
Our team (under our banner Feel Lombok) have been working together in Lombok well before our famous Lombok Loop trip launched. We value honesty and transparency. If the reputable boats are full, we’ll tell you upfront and help you decide on the best alternative, whether that’s waiting for availability or considering other options.
If you really want to try a different operator, we’ll give you the full picture so you can make an informed choice.
